The Missouri Legislature established the Metropolitan Saint Louis Taxicab Commission in 2002, consolidating responsibility for the licensing, regulation and oversight of the vehicle for hire industry in the City of Saint Louis and Saint Louis County – which together form the largest metropolitan area in the State of Missouri - for the first time in history.

Louis Hamilton was one of the original 9 members of the new Commission, appointed to his first time by the Mayor of Saint Louis, and was subsequently elected Vice Chairman of the Commission.

According to state law, the Chairman of the Commission is appointed to a 3 year term,

alternately by the Mayor of Saint Louis and the Saint Louis County Executive. Mr. Hamilton was appointed Chair in 2006 by the Mayor of Saint Louis, and subsequently re-appointed as Chair in 2009 by the County Executive of Saint Louis County.

As Commissioner and Chairman, Hamilton leads the efforts of the 9 member commission in approving the MTC vehicle for Hire Code, and directing the creation and implementation of Commission policies with respect to the licensing and regulation of the taxicab, premium sedan, courtesy shuttle and non-emergency medical transport industry within the MTC jurisdiction.

The professional staff of the Commission, led by Director Ronald Klein, reports directly to the Chairman.

Mr. Hamilton is a principal with Centrex Strategies, a Saint Louis based public communications consulting firm, and has more than 30 years experience in the public policy field.

He served for 8 years as a member of the Missouri Tourism Commission, 6 years as its Chairman. During his tenure as Chairman, Missouri moved into the top 10 tourism destinations in the United States. He serves, or has served in various other corporate and civic capacities over the past 25 years, including Chairman of the Midwest Center of the Coro Leadership Center, and a member of the National Board of Governors and multiple others.

Mr. Hamilton and his wife reside in the City of Saint Louis with their three sons.
